Crochet Flower in Mathematica

For my poster, I created a model in Mathematica of a flower I crocheted. I liked the idea of recreating this specific project because I originally designed the pattern to use simple shapes I knew how to crochet without a pattern. Similarly, I wanted to use simple shapes to create a recognizable figure in Mathematica.

The most notable parts of this project are the use of polar, cylindrical, and spherical coordinates and the unit circle. Understanding how to change coordinates to make disks, cylinders, and spheres more easily is part of multivariable calculus. I also used the unit circle, which we have used throughout all of my calculus education, but I hadn’t ever really found a practical application for until now.
