Mathematical Models of Foliage

We were drawn to do this project by simply walking around the campus of Bryn Mawr. Every morning we walked from Pembroke West down to the Park Science Center, and along the way, saw plenty of leaves fall from the trees onto the ground. For a while in mid-autumn, there were just piles upon piles of leaves on the ground, and we occasionally saw people playing in them.

It was on one of these walks to math class that we had the idea to mathematically model these leaves. Using the 3D modeling software of Mathematica, we were able to identify specific species of leaves and model those using our computers.
